Sponsored by the Fordham University School of Visual Arts in association with New York-based curators d3, the Sketch exhibition for 2013 seeks to investigate the possibilities of drawing by embracing the full range and potential of sketching in conceptual design.

Individual work by Bradley Walters as well the work of nine of his students was included in the work selected for exhibition from over 1500 submissions received.

Curated by Sandra McKee (Fordham University), Gregory Marinic (University of Houston), and Assistant Curator Ivan Aguirre (d3), the exhibition is currently installed in the Fordham University Center Gallery on the Lincoln Center campus in Manhattan.  The exhibition will be on display from 18 February – 19 March 2013.  Center Gallery is open 9am to 9pm, daily.  An opening reception is scheduled for Thursday, 7 March 2013, 6-8pm.

In addition to the gallery exhibition, the organizers will be exhibiting a range of sketches selected for the show in an on-line web gallery, as well as listing the names of all featured exhibitors in a web gallery.

About the exhibition:

Sketching is a fundamental and time-tested tool of design communication– an intuitive practice that conveys ideas and assumptions rapidly and directly.  With the rise of trans-disciplinary practices and digital methods, the conventional act of sketching has been profoundly transformed by a proliferation of diverse methodologies and emerging technologies.  While the perception and notion of what constitutes a sketch continues to expand, many designers are reconsidering and expanding upon the historical role of sketching.  This emerging dialogue reveals unparalleled synergies between 21st century innovation and classical tradition.

Sketch. will revisit the use of classical approaches, while engaging with the new technologies that have expanded the contemporary opportunities of sketching as a conceptual generator.  The exhibition offers a forum to reflect upon the transformative forces impacting sketching in the design process.
